Hard thermal loops, static response, and the composite effective action.
First, we investigate the static non-Abelian Kubo equation. We prove that it does not possess finite energy solutions; thereby we establish that gauge theories do not support hard thermal solitons. This general result is verified by a numerical solution of the equations. A similar argument shows that " static " instantons are absent. In addition, we note that the static equations reproduce the ...
متن کاملHard Thermal Loops , Quark - Gluon Plasma Response
I outline various derivations of the non-Abelian Kubo equation, which governs the response of a quark-gluon plasma to hard thermal perturbations. In the static case, it is proven that gauge theories do not support hard thermal solitons. Explicit solutions are constructed within an SU (2) Ansatz and they are shown to support the general result. The time-dependent problem, i.e., non-Abelian plasm...
متن کاملHamiltonian analysis of the effective action for hard thermal loops in QCD.
The effective action for hard thermal loops in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) is related to a gauged Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten theory. Some of the technical issues of this approach are clarified and the Hamiltonian formulation is presented. The two-point correlator for the induced current in QCD is obtained; some simplifications of the dynamics of the longitudinal modes are also pointed out.
متن کاملHard thermal effective action in QCD through the thermal operator
Through the application of the thermal operator to the zero temperature retarded Green’s functions, we derive in a simple way the well known hard thermal effective action in QCD. By relating these functions to forward scattering amplitudes for on-shell particles, this derivation also clarifies the origin of important properties of the hard thermal effective action, such as the manifest Lorentz ...
متن کاملHard Thermal Loops near the Light-cone *
In hot gauge theories, perturbation theory at the scale of the Debye screening mass requires the resummation of the so-called hard thermal loops, which corresponds to using an effective action obtained by integrating out the modes with momentum of order of the temperature. As is well-known, quantities which are sensitive to the nonperturbative magnetic screening mass still remain incalculable i...
